Traditional Japanese Art and Pokémon Merge at Kogei Art Exhibit!

In a new collaboration between The Pokemon Company and the world of traditional Japanese art, the Pokémon x Kogei exhibition brings together the cherished Pokémon franchise with the rich tradition of Japanese crafts known as Kogei. This exhibition, hosted at the Japan House Cultural Center in downtown Los Angeles, features works from twenty Japanese artists who have seamlessly blended traditional craftsmanship with the iconic Pokémon universe.

The collection showcases nearly 70 unique works, including the striking stoneware representation of Venusaur and an incredibly traditional styled Pikachu lacquered cup. Each piece is a testament to the deep cultural significance of Kogei and the expert craftsmanship of the artists behind the collaboration.

The journey of Pokémon x Kogei began at Japan’s National Crafts Museum in Ishikawa Prefecture, where it opened its doors this spring. Following its initial showcase, the exhibit embarked on a trans-Pacific voyage to Los Angeles, hosted by the Japan House Cultural Center since July of this year.

While the Pokémon x Kogei exhibition is set to conclude its stay in L.A., there’s still a chance to experience this cultural collaboration during the holiday season. For those unable to make the trip, an official photo book of the collection is available for online order here, allowing enthusiasts to appreciate the beauty and quality of the pieces from their homes.

The collaborative museum leaves Los Angeles on January 7th, 2024. Until then, fans can indulge their anticipation by exploring the Pokémon x Kogei collection in person, and for those who are unable to make it to this unique clash of times and cultures, it’s likely the showcase will make a return at some point in the future.
