The New Dandadan Season is finally here! The beloved duo of Momo and Okarun are back on screen with a weekly broadcast, every Thursday from July 3rd for 12 whole episodes! Last year, this anime came out and made a massive splash in the anime community. Mixing action and mystery with romance was an innovation, and many readers and viewers alike were caught off guard by the goofy premise and twist on the genre. Obviously, with it winning multiple awards, such as Best Anime of the Year at the Abema Awards, Science Saru had to produce a season 2 for 2025 quickly, and the hype for the show has been at an all-time high. Let’s dive into the excitement around Dandadan!
Yukinobu Tatsu is the creator and mangaka of Dandadan. His first breakout manga was, of course, Dandadan, but he has had a lot more experience in the industry apart from it. He first started in the industry as an assistant to Yuji Kaku, the mangaka of Hell’s Paradise. He then moved on to being Tatsuki Fujimoto’s assistant, which was an incredible partnership and experience for him as Chainsaw Man was exploding with popularity in Japan and the West. Being exposed to Fujimoto’s bold, chaotic style and genre-defying storytelling helped shape Tatsu’s voice. That influence is extremely clear in Dandadan, a series that somehow manages to juggle absurd humor, cosmic horror, supernatural curses, teenage love, and psychic powers, all while staying emotionally grounded.
Before Dandadan, Tatsu also worked on several one-shots and smaller projects, including Yamada Kiki Ippatsu and Fire Ball!. These early works weren’t major hits, but they helped him find his footing as a storyteller. When he finally pitched Dandadan to Shonen Jump, the result was instant electricity. The first few chapters quickly went viral for their wild plot twists and incredibly dynamic artwork. Readers couldn’t get enough of the absurdity, aliens based on stitched-together Ultraman characters, haunted houses, high school crushes, and battles with ghosts that look like something straight out of a fever dream.
Fast forward to 2025, and Dandadan is not only a manga sensation but one of the most anticipated anime of the year. To kick off Season 2, Science Saru released a special compilation film titled Dandadan: Evil Eye. The film debuted in theaters in Japan, North America, and Europe throughout June and early July. It stitches together the first three episodes of Season 2 into a movie-style presentation, giving fans a dramatic and action-packed start to the next arc. Whether you caught it in theaters or are starting with the weekly broadcast, the new season picks up right where things left off, and it’s diving into some of the manga’s most thrilling and emotional storylines.
This season focuses on two major arcs: the Cursed House arc and the Evil Eye arc. Momo, Okarun, and Jiji are back, dealing with severe supernatural chaos. Jiji’s ancestral home holds a terrifying secret, and a powerful new villain, known as the Evil Eye, emerges. This character isn’t just a new threat, but he’s emotionally complex and full of rage, acting as a major foil for the main cast and pushing them to their limits. Expect intense fights, unsettling imagery, and some of the best animation Science Saru has produced so far.
What sets Dandadan apart from other anime is that it’s not just weird for the sake of it. Beneath the chaos and comedy, there’s a lot of heart. Tatsu often includes scenes of personal, quiet, emotional beats that make the characters feel human, even when they’re flying through the air fighting ghost crabs or psychic aliens. He has mentioned in interviews that those warm, human moments stem from his struggles when he was starting in the manga industry, times when sharing food with friends or coworkers meant everything.
The weekly episodes are now streaming on platforms such as Crunchyroll, Netflix, and Hulu, with new episodes released every Thursday. Whether you’re a longtime fan of the manga or just discovering the anime for the first time, there’s never been a better time to jump into Dandadan. It’s wild, it’s hilarious, it’s heartfelt, and it’s only getting better.
So strap in. The Evil Eye is watching, the haunted house is calling, and Momo and Okarun are back to kick ass and fall (awkwardly) in love all over again.
