Spring in Japan is a great time, especially once the trees start to bloom! Known best for its beautiful pink sakura trees, there is another popular tree that blooms just before they do, the plum (ume) tree. During spring you can enjoy hanami, or picnics under the beautiful blossoms, or yozakura, when the blossoms are lit up for viewing at night!
Most people visiting Akihabara don’t know that there’s a famous Shinto shrine nearby called Kanda Shrine. It’s still rather nippy outside, but the plum blossoms have started to burst, signifying that spring is just around the corner!
There are several different variations as well, like these brighter pink ones.
If you plan to be around Akiba on either the 9th or 10th of May, then you should make sure to visit the Kanda Shrine for the Kanda Festival! It’s sure to have all sorts of awesome traditional festivities that you won’t want to miss!
