Akihabara is home to an incredible amount of innovation and improvement, and Thanko’s Rare-mono Shop (rare things shop) is an excellent example of that.  One of the pioneers of the now infamous “selfie stick”, the Rare-mono Shop has all sorts of incredible gizmos and gadgets to make your life more enjoyable and relaxed.  On top of that, the shop manager, Sasakichi, is one of the most outgoing and cool people you’ll find around Akiba!  Always planning events and helping everyone he can, Sasakichi is the broadcaster of Akihabara!  Come check out all the cool stuff he’s gotten together!

Who didn’t want to be James Bond growing up?  Or at least have some of his awesome gadgets?  Well, check out these awesome mini cameras hidden in everyday normal items.  Watch cameras, glasses cameras, pen cameras, etc.  Some even capture in HD!  Just think of some of the stimulating scenes you could capture, like… filling out a form or checking what time it is!  Come on, where did you think I was going with that?

If you have never pretended the umbrella you’re wielding wasn’t some sort of weapon, you’re a sad, sad person.  Luckily, you can pretend even more now with this sick katanumbrella (katana/umbrella)!  Sasakichi and I had a good time with this one!

Check out all this crazy stuff!  Waterproof camera cases, heated body pillows ;), d-d-d-DJ sets, and even a 3D printing pen!  There’s always some awesome new product at the Rare-mono Shop

Rare-mono for convenience

We’ll start off small here and work our way up.  Rare-mono Shop has a ton of cellphone accessories like battery life extenders, selfie sticks, and lens attachments.  If you need to beef up your smartphone, you’ll be able to find something useful here.

Next we have things like a handbag gripper, pen that has a rechargeable battery in it so you can recharge your iPhone or micro-USB device, a hand grip for your camera which also has a battery in it, and this mask with a fan on top to keep it from steaming up.  You know you need it!

Ok, now we’re getting to the heavy-hitters.  It can be hard to find a comfortable position with a laptop or other device, which is unfortunate since they’re “portable” and all.  Whether it’s scalding hot so you don’t want it on your legs, or if it’s just too low to the ground to get the perfect angle, these two gadgets are awesome.  You may have seen the first one before; the laptop holder for when you’re in bed.  This desk folds and contorts to meet any position you’re in, from sitting to lying down.  Pair it with a wireless mouse and ermagersh yussss!  The other item we have here is perfect for those who like to lay on their stomach to relax.  This cushion puts you at the perfect angle to rest on the floor and still have your hands free to type on a keyboard, play a 3DS, or whatever else you need to do.  It’s funny how you never knew you NEEDED something until you find out it exists.

Rare-mono Shop Akihabara zero-gravity chair

And here, ladies and gentleman, is my favorite: the Zero-Gravity Chair.  This pretty boy here parks you at a 126° angle, which has been said to be the most stress-free for your body, comes with adjustable arms to position your phone, or tablet, just where you need it, and even has USB ports on the side to charge your devices.  Just plug the chair in and you’re set.  Like rocking?  It rocks.  Prefer a recliner with a leg rest?  Then pull out the leg rest, my friend, and enjoy one of the most comfortable experiences of your life.

Walking into Thanko’s Rare-mono Shop, you never know what new and exciting thing you’ll find next and you can’t help but think Billy Mays is gonna pop out of nowhere and start pitching everything to you.  The great staff and fun items make the Rare-mono Shop an excellent addition to any itinerary in Akihabara.  Also, they’re now on Amazon!  Some of the very items from this article are there, so check out the site link below and maybe you’ll stumble onto something you absolutely must have!  With two locations on the main street of Akihabara, it’s really easy to find as well.  See ya soon!
