To celebrate 40 years of Disney theme parks in Japan, the East Japan Railway Company, commonly known as JR East, is set to roll out a magical experience for Disney fans—a Disney-themed Shinkansen! Beginning on December 22, this whimsical train will travel on the Tohoku Shinkansen line, connecting Tokyo with the vibrant Tohoku region.

The exterior of the 10-car train will be adorned with delightful artwork featuring beloved Disney characters such as Mickey, Minnie, Pluto, Donald, Daisy, Goofy, Chip, and Dale. Additionally, the train will showcase iconic locations from Tokyo Disneyland and Disney Sea, forming the backdrop for passengers embarking on their journey through the heart of Japan.

Inside the Disney Shinkansen, passengers can expect the standard passenger announcement chimes to be transformed into a Disney-themed version. While the specifics of the audio remain undisclosed, the change is anticipated to contribute to the enchanting atmosphere. Whether instrumental renditions of classic Disney animated movie songs or a specially crafted song for the 40th anniversary celebration of Tokyo Disneyland, set to occur in April, eager patrons will have to wait for the collaboration to kick off.

Scheduled to operate until the end of March 2024, the Magical Dream Shinkansen promises a unique fusion of Disney magic and the efficiency of Japan’s renowned high-speed rail system. JR East is expected to launch a dedicated website for the Magical Dream Shinkansen, providing schedules and reservation details, and offering Disney fans and rail enthusiasts alike the opportunity to embark on this enchanting journey, although as of now details aside from what have been announced are scarce. Given the popularity of Disney and the rail culture in Japan, securing tickets promptly is advisable for those eager to experience this one-of-a-kind celebration!
